KUALA LUMPUR – MALAYSIA (#2)

10/4/25

En-route to Pakistan, my flight itinerary had left me with a fabulous morning layover in the Malaysian capital – enough time to head out into the city for a wander, and plenty of opportunity to fill up on food!

My Batik Airways flight landed on-time in KL at a touch after 5am – and despite the AeroTrain STILL remaining out of operation in KLIA, I had cleared immigration and was waiting on the KLIA Ekspress platform at 5:50am.

Given I only had a relatively short layover, I wanted to stay in the vicinity of KL Sentral, where I had plonked my bag in a locker for the morning – I decided then, that it would be interesting to walk through the Brickfields area (often referred to as Little India in KL, due to the high proportion of Indian residents), as everything was opening up for the morning.

Brickfields is actually quite a pretty area – lots of colourfully-decorated buildings, statues and designs, and a really nice atmosphere, even at this time of the morning.

First stop was a little street stand that had opened up, dishing out piping-hot cups of masala chai for RM1.

RM1 masala chai absolutely hit the spot

I then went for a bit of stroll that took me to a mamak that was completely packed with people who all seemed to be working in the nearby buildings, getting breakfast before starting their days. A plate of mee goreng, a roti canai, and a teh tarik set me back a whopping RM18.50 ($6.70AUD). KL really is a foodie’s paradise!

Teh tarik, maggi goreng, and roti canai. You literally cannot go wrong!

Once I was certain I could no longer put anything else in my stomach, I reluctantly made my way back to KL Sentral, retrieved my bag from the locker, and headed back to the airport on the KLIA Ekspress. I definitely need to come and spend more time in KL when I get a chance!
